Simple Tips for Clean, Clear Water

Keeping water clean in a stock tank pool takes a bit of care Here’s how to keep the water fresh, clear, and algae-free:

Using a Filtration system

Our Poolex Filter Pro keeps water circulating and filtered, preventing stagnation and debris buildup.

Run it at least 4–6 hours per day depending on use.

Make sure to rinse the filter cartridge weekly.

 If unfiltered Change the Water

Without a filter, plan to drain and refill every 1–2 weeks in hot weather.

Never use Chlorine without the Filter pump.

Regular Cleaning

Skim debris daily (leaves, bugs, etc.).

Scrub the sides and bottom weekly — algae clings easily to metal.

Clean the filter every week.

Cover When Not in Use

A pool cover or shade sail helps:

Prevent debris.

Slow algae growth.

Keep chlorine from evaporating too quickly.

Chlorine Management

How to Add Chlorine

Use 1 inch chlorine tablets in a floating dispenser

Never drop tablets directly on metal — they can corrode galvanized tanks.

Testing & Adjusting

Test chlorine levels 1–2 times per week .

If chlorine is below 1 ppm → add a bit more chlorine.

If above 5 ppm → remove the floater or partially cover it to slow release.

pH Management

Testing

Use pool test strips to measure pH.

Test every few days, especially after heavy rain, refilling, or lots of swimming.

If pH is Too Low (<7.2)

Add pH increaser (sodium carbonate / soda ash).

Start with about 1 tablespoon per 100 gallons, mix, then retest in a few hours.

If pH is Too High (>7.8)

Add pH reducer (sodium bisulfate or muriatic acid).

Start small: 1 teaspoon per 100 gallons, stir well, and retest.
